It has been such a strange year with above average temperatures and more rain than snow but we feel that we have finally turned a corner and this is only the beginning of a wonderful winter season in Humber Valley.

We recently had a family of 5 from Ontario that stayed with us for a week. We had helped her plan all the details to ensure her family had the best vacation possible. She has sent us this lovely letter in regards to their stay:

“ Thank you Visit Humber Valley for the incredible vacation we had in July. It has always been a dream of mine to explore Newfoundland and the advertisements were simply beckoning me to come and see what it’s all about. Our family has had a very tough year and I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to have some quality time together. When I announced to the children a few months ago our vacation location, I was surprised to receive a negative reaction. To me Newfoundland meant natural beauty and wonder, unique culture and a mysterious land but to them it meant boring, unexciting and away from their friends. It was then that I realized we needed this vacation more than ever. We had drifted apart and spent too much time being over stimulated by technology and distracted from what was important in life.

The chalet was more than what we could have imagined! Perfect in every way for a family vacation and an ideal setting for a week of bonding time. The first day or so on vacation was an adjustment for us all but as the week progressed the laptops, cell phones and video games were ignored and the real vacation began. Our children’s days were filled with fun adventures, discovery, laughter, outdoor magical worlds and cohesiveness as a family. We fell back in love with Mother Nature and spent time smelling flowers, making daisy chains, fishing, watching the fox family play, listening to the birds, splashing in puddles, watching the first stars sparkle in the dark night sky…. simple, yet powerful experiences. As a family we shared walks down forest paths, huffing and puffing to the top of a hill, sunsets over the water, storytelling on a warm summer evening …moments of pure joy!

We each discovered something new about ourselves:
•	My 14 year old daughter has taken up the art of sending postcards to friends rather than texting.
•	My 12 year old son has a newfound love of cooking and creating new dishes for us to try
•	My 10 year old son is fascinated with geology and the Gros Morne Mountains
•	My husband is an amazing storyteller and (with insistence from the kids) wants to write them down
•	I can actually Zip line 400 feet above a waterfall and absolutely love it

The day we packed to go was very sad. The entire family felt renewed and energized but the prospect to getting back to reality was not pleasant. We made a pact to always take the time to appreciate nature and each other. The children are now calling Newfoundland the” Best Vacation Ever” and can’t stop talking about the natural wonders, friendly people and fish they caught! The only complaint is they can’t stop pestering me about when we can go back. I understand the winter is just as fun…I’ll be in touch soon as to when our vacation dates are set in February/March!“

                                                                                          K. Foster and family
